What is HGV & LGV Training?

HGV and LGV training involve a series of qualifications and practical lessons that prepare you to drive heavy goods vehicles professionally. Whether you’re new to driving or seeking to upgrade your current license, our training ensures you meet all legal and safety requirements.

Our Training Programs

We offer a variety of courses tailored to different levels of experience and career goals:

  • Category C1 Training (up to 7.5 tonnes)
    Perfect for those aiming to drive medium-sized vehicles like delivery trucks or small lorries.
  • Category C Training (Rigid Vehicles/Class 2)
    This course is for driving larger rigid vehicles, ideal for those pursuing careers in logistics and haulage.
  • Category C+E Training (Articulated Vehicles/Class 1)
    Our most advanced course, preparing you to drive articulated lorries or trucks with trailers, opening up a wide range of career opportunities.
  • Driver CPC Training
    Essential for professional drivers, our CPC training includes both initial certification and periodic training to ensure you remain compliant with industry standards.

Steps to Getting Qualified

  1. Apply for a Provisional License
    Complete a medical examination and eyesight test, then apply for your provisional HGV license.
  2. Pass the Theory Tests
    Study for and pass the Driver CPC part 1 theory test and part 2 case studies.
  3. Practical Training
    Engage in hands-on training for the Driver CPC part 3a off-road exercises and part 3b on-road driving.
  4. Final Qualification
    Complete the Driver CPC part 4 practical demonstration test to fully qualify as an HGV driver.

After qualifying, you’ll need to undertake 35 hours of periodic training every five years to keep your certification up to date.
